Location & Coverage
Q: Where is Houz Design based — and what areas do you cover?
A:
Houz Design is based in Elgin, in Moray, but we regularly provide architectural services across the Moray, Aberdeenshire, Highland and wider Scotland.
Whether you’re in Elgin, Forres, Inverness, Huntly, Dufftown, or further afield, we can usually support your project from start to finish.
Most of the process — including design, planning applications, building warrants, and ongoing liaison — is handled digitally through email, phone, or WhatsApp. This keeps things efficient and cost-effective, no matter your location.
When required, we work with trusted local surveyors, engineers, or contractors to gather site-specific information (like surveys, soil conditions, or drainage), all under our supervision. We then use that to deliver accurate drawings, specifications, and approvals.
And where feasible, we’ll also travel to meet you or visit the site in person — especially for complex or higher-value projects. For example, we often make trips across Moray and Highland to meet clients in person when needed.
Q: Can you still help if I’m not based near Elgin?
A:
Yes — we regularly help clients across Scotland, including rural and island locations. Distance doesn’t stop us from delivering a complete, high-quality service.
The majority of our work can be completed remotely, including:
-
Architectural design
-
Planning and building warrant drawings
-
Submitting applications
-
Liaising with Building Control and engineers
-
Coordinating with your chosen builder
If local expertise is required (like measured surveys or drainage reports), we have approved contacts across various regions who can provide that — or we’ll advise you on who to appoint. Their findings are then incorporated into your design package.
Our approach keeps things flexible and makes it easier for homeowners or landowners in remote locations to access a professional, design-led service without compromise.
Q: Can you visit my site or meet in person during the project?
A:
Yes — while much of our process can be handled online, we understand that some clients prefer face-to-face meetings, or that certain projects benefit from a site visit.
Where feasible, we’re happy to meet in person, whether that’s at your property, a proposed site, or a local venue. For example, recent visits have included Dufftown, Lhanbryde, and rural parts of Aberdeenshire and Highland.
We’ll typically visit:
-
At early stages to assess the site and talk through your ideas
-
If there’s a need for hands-on input (e.g. tricky levels, access issues)
-
For meetings with builders, engineers or Building Control officers
We also work closely with trusted local contacts who can carry out surveys, assessments or inspections on our behalf when needed — particularly if the site is remote or time-sensitive. This information is sent directly back to us, ensuring continuity in your design and application process.
Ultimately, our goal is to provide a personal, flexible and responsive service, whether you're just down the road or across the country.
